Proserpina menjadi ratunya setelah diculik Pluto.
Pluto is the son of Saturnus and Ops and brother of Jupiter and Neptunus. He rules Tartarus and the underworld. Theoi connects Pluto with the Greek title Plouton, "the Lord of Riches". In Theoi's account of Hades, his Greek counterpart, he oversaw burial ceremonies and championed the entitlement of the dead to proper burial, and he was lord of the concealed riches of the earth. Proserpina becomes his queen after Pluto abducts her. Sources differ over her time in the underworld: one source gives three or six months yearly, while Ovid's version gives six months with her mother and six with her husband. Theoi notes that because she had tasted the pomegranate seed she had to return for a portion of each year. Pluto is said to drive a golden chariot with four black horses and own a helmet that makes its wearer invisible. Cerberus guards the underworld entrance. Theoi describes Hades as a dark-bearded, regal god, and quotes an account that Hades kept the gates of the lower world closed and was fierce and inexorable, so that mortals hated him most of all the gods. In the Orpheus tale, Pluto permits Eurydice's return if Orpheus does not look back.
